“For as long as space remains, and as long as sentient beings remain, until then too may I remain to dispel the suffering of all beings.”
Anna K. Sanders, Buddhist Somatic Therapist
What if your deepest wounds could become your greatest sources of strength?
transform trauma into embodied wisdom
I'm Anna Sanders, and I've spent over two decades discovering how ancient Buddhist practices can transform modern trauma healing. My approach combines the profound wisdom of contemplative traditions with cutting-edge somatic therapy to help you not just recover from trauma, but transform it into embodied wisdom.
From Crime Scenes to Sacred Healing
My journey began in the most unlikely place: as an Alaska State Trooper investigating horrific crimes against children and adults. Witnessing such profound suffering, I realized that our criminal justice system could punish, but it couldn't heal the deep wounds left in survivors' bodies and spirits.
That recognition led me on a path that would span decades: from studying with Tibetan Buddhist teacher Lama Tsultrim Allione, to becoming a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®, to pioneering the integration of Buddhist diety and shadow work with trauma therapy.
The Bodhicitta Difference
In Mahayana Buddhism, bodhicitta is the altruistic intention to work for the benefit of all beings. It is the desire to continuously be of service. This is the aspiration of a bodhisattva, and it is perhaps the more commonly understood definition.
In Dzogchen traditions, however, bodhicitta means “perfect knowing.” It is our true nature, our innate condition. We are born with bodhicitta, and it cannot be extinguished, diminished, or damaged. ALL of us (even those we don’t like!) have bodhicitta; primordial purity is who we really are.
Bodhicitta, the awakened heart that wishes to free all beings from suffering, is more therefore than a beautiful concept. It's the foundation of a revolutionary approach to healing that recognizes we are inherently healthy. Past traumatic experiences cannot diminish us if we tune into, connect with, and illuminate them with our beautiful heart-mind bodhicitta energy.
